Expanding a Layer Farm? How to Decide Whether to Bring in All the Birds at Once
Plan the intake around what your farm can support. Bringing in one group can simplify management when the new house is ready and feed deliveries are secured. Staggering arrivals may work better when separate houses are completed at different times and can be managed independently. Before confirming delivery, have the farm manager and installer check the new house together. Make sure staff can operate the equipment, the feeding and drinking systems work as planned, and unfinished installation work will not interfere with the birds. Agree on who can postpone delivery if an essential check fails. Compare feed orders with expected egg income on the same calendar. Include feed for your existing birds and the time buyers usually take to pay. If you split deliveries, work with your farm veterinarian on a separate housing and management plan for each group, including feeding schedules, flock checks and cleaning dates.
