New Anambra NYCN Chairman Vows Transparent, Inclusive Leadership

New Anambra NYCN Chairman Vows Transparent, Inclusive Leadership

Comrade IKC Onuorah was elected Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter at the 2026 State Unity Congress in Awka. He secured 75 votes to defeat Nonso Nwebili, who polled 63 votes. His executive team includes Thankgod Nwafor as Deputy Chairman, Uchenna Ejeri as Vice Chairman South, Menkiti Oliseli as Vice Chairman North, and other officers who emerged through a harmonization process. The Electoral Council had initially slated 160 delegates from local branches and youth organizations to vote. Outgoing Chairman Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi commended the transparent process and thanked Governor Soludo and the State Commissioner for Youth Development for their support. Stakeholders urged the new leadership to maintain unity and focus on capacity building rather than politicization. In his acceptance speech, Onuorah pledged an open administration that welcomes constructive criticism. He promised to prioritize youth empowerment, sustain the council’s unity, and collaborate with all members to achieve greater impact for Anambra youths.

How do you think Chairman Onuorah can ensure truly inclusive leadership across all local NYCN branches in Anambra State?

I agree. Rolling out monthly branch reviews and open feedback sessions can really boost inclusion efforts.

The 75 to 63 vote split indicates a fairly divided electorate, which could challenge the chairman's pledge for unity and inclusive decision making.

Promises of transparency sound good on paper, but many leaders struggle to maintain that standard once administrative pressures build up.

A practical step would be monthly branch meetings with published minutes and open feedback channels to track progress and keep members informed.
