Lagos Floods Sink Oworoshoki Substation, Trigger Statewide Blackout
Heavy rainfall in Lagos has submerged the Oworoshoki 133/33KV transmission substation. Two transformers (60 MVA and 30 MVA) tripped off even after restoration efforts, cutting power to several districts. Lekki’s 330/132KV substation remains online as crews pump out water. However, all protection and control cables at Oworoshoki are underwater and evacuation efforts are hampered by ongoing rain. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) declares force majeure on both stations. Engineers are working to clear floodwaters and restore service. TCN apologises for the inconvenience to affected customers.
