Olayinka Monarch Dies in Captivity Despite ₦21m Ransom Payment
A voice message from a rescue committee confirmed that Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda of Olayinka in Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State, is dead after being held captive for a month. His abductors had demanded ₦21 million, two new motorcycles, and petrol for his release. Residents, family members, community leaders and religious figures made extensive efforts and even delivered the ransom package. Despite their efforts, reports from a recently freed captive say the traditional ruler was killed before he could return home. In the message, committee members reminded the community that life and death are in God’s hands and urged both Muslim and Christian indigenes to accept this painful outcome. Plans are underway for Islamic funeral prayers, even though the monarch’s body has not yet been recovered. This tragic event has plunged Olayinka into deep mourning. The loss highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of Kwara State.
