Segun Odegbami on Divorce, Fatherhood and Why He Never Married Oyindamola Adeyemi
Former Super Eagles star Segun Odegbami has reflected on his life at 74, including the collapse of his first marriage, his relationship with businesswoman Oyindamola Adeyemi and the lessons he has learned about family. Odegbami said years of living apart from his former wife damaged their marriage, which was formally dissolved in 2012. He admitted that he was not a good husband and said the experience taught him the cost of isolation and unchecked freedom. He also confirmed that he and Adeyemi had a serious relationship, held a family introduction and had a son together. However, they decided more than a decade ago not to marry, choosing instead to preserve their friendship and co-parent their child. The football icon said he is no longer seeking marriage or romance. He described his children as the centre of his life and said he hopes to be remembered for integrity, education and using football to make society better.
