Osun Labour Rejects APC Vote-Buying Claim Over ₦10,000 Worker Palliatives

Organised Labour in Osun State has rejected the APC’s claim that transport palliatives paid to workers and pensioners ahead of the August 15 governorship election amount to vote-buying. The NLC, TUC and Joint Negotiating Council said the monthly ₦10,000 transport support was negotiated with the state government after petrol prices and living costs increased. The unions said the payment of two months’ arrears was the fulfilment of an existing agreement, not an election inducement. Labour also criticised the APC and its candidate, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, over their opposition to the payment. It alleged that APC-linked political forces were behind the freezing of state government accounts by the EFCC, but provided no evidence for the claim. The unions urged workers and pensioners to accept the palliatives without fear, saying they can judge political leaders by their records on salaries, pensions and workers’ welfare.
