NAPTIP Breaks Child Trafficking Ring: Twins and Others Rescued, Seven Arrested
On March 17, 2026, NAPTIP’s Niger State Command rescued six trafficked children, including newborn twins. Commander Emmanuel Awhen reunited the victims with their families at the agency’s Minna office. Investigations revealed a Social Welfare staff in Bida had taken the twins under the pretext of government support. The babies were sold through a nurse at Federal Medical Centre, Bida, to buyers in Lagos and Anambra. The twins were recovered and returned to their mother on December 18, 2025. Further inquiry uncovered a related scheme where four children of a vulnerable mother were deceived by fake officials. Two were kept as domestic helpers and two were sold to individuals in Abia and Anambra. All children were recovered or released, and seven suspects, including a local welfare officer, have been arrested.
