Ibom Medical City Could Create Jobs and Boost Medical Tourism, Official Says
The chairman of Akwa Ibom’s emergency services and ambulance system says the Ibom Medical City is expected to expand access to specialist healthcare, create jobs and position the state as a medical-tourism destination. He said construction has already provided work for some residents, while the completed facility would require doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, technicians and other professionals. He also expects businesses in hospitality, transport, food and accommodation to benefit around the project corridor. The official linked the project to the state’s wider health plans, including upgraded hospitals, primary healthcare centres, health insurance and ambulance services. He said emergency patients taken to hospital by ambulance can receive the first 48 hours of treatment free, including those without health insurance.
