Open Letter Urges Urgent Rehabilitation of Niger Delta’s East–West Road
I am writing to urge the Minister of Works to prioritise the rehabilitation and sustainable completion of the East–West Road. This major Niger Delta highway connects communities, businesses and key economic centres, yet many sections are marked by potholes, flooding, erosion, gridlock and long delays. Motorists, traders, farmers, students and workers face avoidable hardship daily, especially during the rainy season. The road is vital to agriculture, commerce, manufacturing, energy and oil-and-gas operations, so its poor condition continues to impose serious social and economic costs on the region. I appeal for durable reconstruction, effective drainage and flood-control systems, clear completion timelines, stronger contractor monitoring and regular public progress reports. The people of the Niger Delta are not asking for a favour; they deserve a safe and functional national road that supports economic growth, public safety and regional connectivity.
