Makinde Vows Safe Rescue of Oriire Schoolchildren and Teachers
Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde says his administration is doing everything to rescue schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area. He made the remarks in an Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day message published on Wednesday. He assured that security forces are working to keep communities across the state safe. “As we mark Eid and Children’s Day, our thoughts are with every family awaiting the return of loved ones. We are working to ensure the safe return of those kidnapped in Oriire,” he said. The Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, appealed for prayers for the victims’ safe return. He urged Muslims to remember the abductees in their Eid-el-Kabir prayers and called for divine intervention to address insecurity across the state. On May 15, armed attackers raided three schools in the Ogbomosho area, abducting 32 people—including 18 primary pupils, seven teachers, and seven grammar school students. One teacher has since been killed.
