Anambra Police Arraign HIV-Positive Father and Four Others for Child Sexual Abuse
The Anambra State Police Command will arraign five suspects at a Special Court in Awka today. These prosecutions follow investigations by the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department. Among those charged is a middle-aged man accused of raping his daughter over a three-year period. The case emerged after the now 20-year-old victim tested positive for a serious viral infection. The suspect, who is also HIV-positive, reportedly made a confessional statement. A 26-year-old security guard stands accused of dragging a 16-year-old girl into an unfinished building and having unlawful carnal knowledge of her. He has also confessed to the offence. A 36-year-old barber faces charges of defiling an 11-year-old girl in his salon, with medical evidence supporting the allegation. Police will also prosecute a 52-year-old man for taking advantage of an 11-year-old’s mental condition, and a woman accused of beating two adopted toddlers aged 6 and 4 with a wire. The Commissioner of Police condemned these acts as grievous and vowed to protect vulnerable persons.
