Oyo Couple Trade Allegations of Infidelity and Domestic Abuse in Divorce Case

A woman identified as Rashidat has asked a Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, to dissolve her marriage to Sarafatu. She alleged neglect, frequent fights, physical abuse and threats to her safety. Rashidat said she had supported their children because her husband allegedly failed to provide for the family. She asked for custody of the children, financial support for their welfare and an order preventing him from interfering in her private life. Sarafatu agreed to the dissolution but accused his wife of infidelity. He alleged that she left the home after becoming pregnant by another man and asked the court to grant him custody of the children. The allegations were made by both parties in court and were not independently verified.
