Residents of Ogbenti-Obi Quarters and members of the Obi Dieyi Royal Family in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, have appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene over alleged demolitions, fencing and blocked access routes in the area. In a petition dated August 17, they alleged that enforcement activities connected to the long-running Ogwashi-Uku throne succession dispute have damaged homes and ancestral structures. They fear that families who were not parties to the court case could lose properties that fall outside the scope of any valid judgment. The petitioners said they are not asking the governor to decide the succession dispute or override the courts. They want the state to examine the relevant judgment, survey plans and property boundaries, halt further irreversible action where necessary, and protect residents from displacement or intimidation. They also requested a meeting involving the affected families, traditional institution and government officials, warning that continued demolitions and restricted access could heighten tension in the community.
