Sanwo-Olu Urges Babcock Graduates to Choose Knowledge Over Social Media Virality

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received Babcock University’s Leadership and Service Award at its 2026 undergraduate convocation in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State. Delivering the convocation lecture, he urged more than 3,400 graduates of the NOVA Class of 2026 to embrace innovation, resilience and lifelong learning. He cautioned them against celebrating ignorance or social-media virality over knowledge and competence. Sanwo-Olu shared lessons from failed business ventures after university and said setbacks should strengthen, not stop, young people. He also encouraged graduates to use technology and structured partnerships to develop practical solutions to public problems. The governor cited Lagos’ expanded budget, rail projects, public transport, housing and technology ecosystem as examples of long-term planning. A graduating student who spoke for the class urged her colleagues to remain united and give back to their communities.
