Lagos Biology Teacher Adeola Akinsulure Makes Global Teacher Prize Top 10
Adeola Olufunke Akinsulure, a Biology teacher at Omole Senior Grammar School in Ikeja, Lagos, was named among the top 10 finalists for the 2026 Global Teacher Prize. The prize carries a US$1 million award and recognises teachers whose work has made an outstanding impact on education and their communities. India’s Rouble Nagi was announced as the overall winner. Akinsulure was recognised for her STEM education work, girls’ empowerment and the SOAR+T teaching model. Her students’ reported Biology pass rate rose from 45.3% in 2021 to 99% in 2022, and she has trained more than 30,000 teachers in Nigeria and beyond. Nigeria also had Tijjani Mohammed Mukaddas of the Transit School Initiative in the global top 50, recognised for work addressing out-of-school children.
