Anambra Closes Otuocha Market After Aguleri-Umuoba Anam Clash Kills Five
The Anambra State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Otuocha Market after a communal clash between Aguleri and Umuoba-Anam left five people dead. Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim announced the closure during a visit to the affected communities. He said all commercial and other activities at the market must stop while investigations continue and those responsible are identified. The dispute was reportedly triggered by attempts to erect a signpost and install security cameras in the market area. Three people were reported killed in Aguleri and two in Umuoba-Anam. Several others were hospitalised, while houses, shops and a rice-processing factory were burnt.
