Kwara IGR Rises to ₦92.2bn as State Reduces Reliance on Federal Allocations
Kwara State generated a record ₦92.2 billion in internally generated revenue in 2025, up from ₦30.6 billion in 2019, according to figures from the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service. A recent fiscal ranking found that 25 states relied on Federation Account Allocation Committee transfers for more than 80% of their revenue in the first quarter of 2026. Kwara was not among them. The state attributed the growth to tax-administration reforms, digitalisation, a wider taxpayer base, improved compliance and efforts to curb revenue leakages. Kwara generated about ₦39.1 billion in the first half of 2026. BudgIT ranked Kwara third nationally for subnational fiscal performance in its 2025 report. The state is also developing a Revenue House in Ilorin to centralise tax operations and improve taxpayer services.
