Why I Believe Nigeria Needs a Referendum Before the 2027 Election
I believe Nigerians risk repeating the same political cycle in 2027 if the country continues under the current constitutional arrangement. In my view, changing presidents alone will not address the deeper problems of inequality, poor governance and public frustration. I support a national referendum and sovereignty conference that would allow Nigerians to debate the country’s future openly. Such a process should consider genuine decentralisation, constitutional reform and the right of regions to determine how they want to be governed. I do not believe presidential candidates can deliver lasting change without confronting the structure of the system itself. For me, 2027 should be about renegotiating Nigeria’s future and building a fairer political arrangement for its people.
