Would You Lock Your Savings Until Your Rent or School Fees Is Due?
I once struggled to save enough for a new phone because my money was always within reach. Then an issue with an old account made it difficult to withdraw from it. Since I could not easily access the money, I stopped spending it. I kept adding to the account until I reached my target, resolved the account issue and bought the phone. It felt like the restriction had saved me from myself. It made me wonder whether saving is difficult because our money is too accessible. Would you use a system that locks money for a specific goal, such as rent, school fees, business equipment or a phone, and pays it out only when that goal is due? Would you willingly give up access to your money if it made you more likely to meet your savings target?
