Man Raised in Violent Home Urges Couples Not to Stay Together Only for Their Children
A 38-year-old man has urged couples in abusive and deeply unhappy marriages not to remain together solely because of their children. He said witnessing constant fights between his parents while growing up left him with recurring nightmares, anxiety, low self-esteem and depressive episodes. Even as an adult, sudden loud noises can trigger memories of the violence he witnessed at home. According to him, children can be deeply harmed by a home without safety or peace. He advised parents to listen when their children express fear or discomfort around either parent, while recognising that leaving an unhealthy relationship is only the first step towards healing.
