Ibadan Woman Seeks Divorce After Husband Brings Lovers Home and Beats Her

A Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan heard a petition from Idiah seeking to dissolve her marriage. She accused her husband, Olalekan, of neglecting his duties as breadwinner and failing to pay her bride price. Idiah told the court he spent lavishly on girlfriends and even slept with them on their matrimonial bed. She said he beat her severely whenever she confronted him and destroyed her goods, bankrupting her business. She asked the court to grant her custody of their six children and order her husband to provide for their upkeep. She also wants protection against his threats and harassment. The case was adjourned for a fresh hearing notice.
