Lawyer Explains Why EFCC Summoned Randy Peter and Mama Pee

Lawyer Explains Why EFCC Summoned Randy Peter and Mama Pee

Inibehe Effiong, counsel to social media activists Randy Peter and Mama Pee, has clarified why the pair were invited by the EFCC. He says they were asked to explain cash that looked like Naira notes but were actually entertainment props. Effiong revealed the anti-graft agency first scheduled the invitation for 6 July but agreed to a new date of 15 July after a formal request. He accompanied his clients to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where they cooperated and spent a lengthy but professional session with investigators. The duo were released late into the night and asked to return the following day for further questions. Their lawyer said they remain in high spirits and will share more updates in due course.

Did you ever wonder how prop money could land activists in hot water with the EFCC?

True. Prop money might look like real cash, so EFCC will suspect fraud or money laundering when activists use it.

It seems surprising that the EFCC didn't spot those were just entertainment props from the start.

I'm not convinced this is more than a publicity stunt by anti-graft agencies trying to flex their power.

Next time content creators should document their props thoroughly to avoid misunderstandings with law enforcement.
