South-East Demands Functional Seaport First, FOSAD Poll Reveals
An opinion survey by the Forum of South-East Academic Doctors shows that 43.2% of participants rank a functional seaport as the region’s top development priority. Reliable electricity (20.9%) and stronger security (14.9%) follow, with industrialisation and improved rail links also highlighted. The poll sought to guide policymakers and focus attention on critical infrastructure gaps. The group warns that without a local port, trade remains stifled, costs stay high, and job opportunities are limited. It urges state governors, political leaders, and the Federal Government to mobilize support for maritime, power, and security projects. With sustained advocacy and political will, FOSAD believes the South-East can overcome its infrastructural deficits and grow into a leading economic hub in Nigeria.
