FG Begins Construction of 1,500-Bed Student Hostel at FUTA
The Federal Government has commenced construction of a 1,500-bed student hostel at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). The project is being delivered through a TETFund public-private partnership and was inaugurated in Akure on September 4, 2026. The Education Minister said the project is intended to improve student welfare by providing safer and more decent accommodation. He urged stakeholders to uphold high standards in design, safety and sustainability so the facility can serve future generations of students. FUTA's Vice-Chancellor said the hostel will help address accommodation challenges on campus. The facility is expected to include a gym, laundry services and shops, while the private partner will manage it for an agreed period to maintain quality standards. The project developer said it would provide capital and technical expertise to deliver safe and affordable on-campus housing for FUTA's more than 25,000 students.
