I Just Tested Positive for Hepatitis B and I’m Worried
I recently found out that I am hepatitis B positive, and I am shocked and worried. I am 34 and had never been admitted to hospital or had medical tests beyond knowing my blood group and genotype. I grew up in a poor rural family and do not think I received the hepatitis B vaccine as a child. I am wondering whether I may have contracted it at birth or through another route. I also use protection during sex. My doctor has requested a liver function test, and I am waiting for the result. I do not drink alcohol, but I am still scared about what this diagnosis means. What steps should I take while waiting to speak further with my doctor?
