DSS and Army Foil ESN Kidnap Plot, Seize Rocket Launcher and AK-47s in Enugu
Security forces from the Department of State Services and the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a planned series of attacks and kidnappings by the outlawed Eastern Security Network in the Southeast. Acting on intelligence from arrested ESN field commanders in Garki, Enugu State, officers raided an armoury on the Agbani axis. They recovered a rocket launcher, RPG warheads and chargers, 11 AK-47 rifles, over 1,000 rounds of ammunition, tear-gas canisters, grenades and NYSC uniforms intended for disguise. Further intelligence revealed the ESN intended to abduct women, students and children across the region to spread fear and undermine security. This operation follows recent arrests of arms couriers linked to the abduction of students and staff in Niger State.
