Fiokee Hails Justice as Sister’s Killer Gets Death Sentence
Nigerian guitarist Ifiok Effanga, known as Fiokee, has praised the court’s verdict after his sister’s murderer was sentenced to death. An Akwa Ibom State High Court handed Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson the ultimate penalty for killing makeup artist Emem Effanga on February 6, 2025. Nelson, an usher at a new-generation church in Uyo, reportedly visited Emem under the pretense of using her phone. A struggle ensued, and he fatally assaulted her before fleeing with her device. He was arrested two days later during a church service and confessed to the crime. In his ruling, Justice Ekpo Ntekim found Nelson guilty of murder and stealing. The court ordered he be executed by hanging or lethal injection, with the theft charge absorbed into the murder sentence. Reacting on social media, Fiokee urged everyone: “Don’t take a life you didn’t create.”
