Ette Community Urges Governor to Restore ‘Ogurugu’ Name for New Technical College

Your Excellency, Thank you for your commitment to development in Enugu State and for approving a new Government Technical College near Ette. We appreciate this investment in our future. On July 20, a handover ceremony took place at the proposed site in Ogurugu, Ette. Unfortunately, the local chairman and others renamed the land “Mbanabo” without notifying our traditional ruler or respecting our historical identity. This change risks confusion and tension between Ette and neighbouring communities. We respectfully ask you to ensure the site is officially referred to by its rightful, long-standing name: Ogurugu, Ette. Protecting our heritage and unity is as important as any development. We trust your leadership to uphold justice and preserve our culture. Thank you for your attention and continued service to Enugu State.

Naming the college is important, but shouldn't we focus on essential facilities and staffing first before debating the title?

Maybe community leaders can organize a joint meeting with state officials to formally request reinstating the 'Ogurugu' name and track next steps.
