Minnesota Dad Arrested After Infant Suffocates Under Weighted Blanket While He Chatted Online
A 26-year-old Minnesota father has been charged after his 10-month-old son suffocated under a weighted blanket. Authorities say he left the baby for nearly five hours while he chatted with friends on Discord. According to court documents and police reports, Omni Maxx Morningstar put his son down for a nap at 11 a.m. and did not check on him until 3:55 p.m. He found the child unresponsive and overheated under the heavy cover. The boy had a history of fevers and colic, leading Morningstar to use weighted blankets to keep him calm. A medical examiner ruled the death as asphyxia caused by compression from the blanket. Morningstar faces a second-degree manslaughter charge. He remains in the Blue Earth County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on April 16.
