I Earn ₦464,000 Monthly as a Bank Marketer but I’m Saving ₦5m to Quit
A 24-year-old bank marketer is saving aggressively to leave a job that pays her ₦464,000 monthly but has taken a heavy toll on her mental health. She says relentless deposit, loan and account-opening targets have made her feel trapped in an industry she never wanted to enter. After growing up with school-fee struggles, low-paid teaching work and inconsistent freelance writing gigs, she joined a bank’s graduate trainee programme in late 2024. She was absorbed as staff in March 2025 and now saves between ₦200,000 and ₦250,000 monthly while living with her parents. She has saved about ₦4 million and hopes to reach ₦5 million before resigning by March 2027. Her plan is to complete an online Master’s in Public Health and transition into development, public-health or writing roles, even if they initially pay less than banking. For her, peace of mind matters more than a high salary. She hopes her savings will give her enough time to find work that offers both stability and a healthier life.
