18 Dead as Land Dispute Erupts in Niger State’s Angwan-Baago
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed 18 fatalities after a violent land dispute in the Angwan-Baago community of Rafi Local Government Area. The clash began when armed men shot dead 25-year-old Ibrahim Musa at Godoro village. In a suspected reprisal, local vigilantes known as Yansakai killed 28-year-old Bashir Mazi. On July 1, 15 residents were burnt to death in a two-bedroom flat, and another person was killed elsewhere, bringing the toll to 18. A reconciliation committee led by local government officials is working with security agencies to defuse the crisis. Joint police and military units have been deployed to restore peace.
