Houston Officer Suspended After Viral Racist Rant Sparks Probe

The Houston Police Department is investigating one of its officers after a social media video showed her using racist language. Officer Ashley Gonzalez has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of the probe. In the footage, she describes confronting a suspect she believes was Black and admits she used a racial slur, saying she felt “like I was back in the Marine Corps.” Local reports say the video also includes controversial remarks about slavery and discrimination. Gonzalez served in the US Marine Corps from 2019 to 2023 and reached the rank of corporal. The police union says it is deeply disturbed by the incident.
