Many Nigerians learn a skill with high hopes, practise for a few months, and quit when clients or income do not come quickly. Then they move from graphic design to digital marketing, copywriting, affiliate marketing, crypto, AI, freelancing, or the next popular skill. They keep moving, but they do not stay long enough to make meaningful progress. That is the Lagos Bus Stop Theory. If you keep jumping from one bus to another because the journey feels slow, you may spend the whole day travelling without reaching any destination. The problem is not always the skill. Often, the real issue is giving up before you have developed competence, built proof of work, tested strategies, and learnt from mistakes. Consistency is not repeating the same weak effort. It means doing the work, reviewing the results, improving your approach, and trying again. Before abandoning a skill, ask yourself: Have I given it enough time? Am I improving or merely repeating myself? Have I tested different strategies? Do not compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Your first designs, proposals, videos, campaigns, or offers may fail. Keep learning and refining your work. Sometimes the breakthrough is not on another bus; it is further down the road you are already on.
