NHRC Seeks Justice for Ebonyi Woman Murdered Over Inheritance
The Ebonyi State office of the National Human Rights Commission has called for swift justice in the killing of Ms Nnenna Onu. She was allegedly murdered over her late father’s property rights in December 2021 at Amagu, Anike. Onu, a 35-year-old Public Administration graduate of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Afikpo, was found burnt beyond recognition. Her all-female family had been evicted from their father’s compound five years earlier simply because he had no son. The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Chidiebere Okoro, who is now remanded at the maximum correctional centre in Abakaliki. NHRC Coordinator Christopher Okorie lamented the case delays and urged government and civil society to intervene. Juliet Onu, the victim’s younger sister, appealed directly to Governor Francis Nwifuru. She described her family’s long agony and prayed for justice at last.
