Catholic Bishops Set Four Nationwide Prayer and Fasting Dates Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria has announced four nationwide prayer and fasting observances ahead of the 2027 general elections. The initiative is aimed at promoting peaceful, free and credible polls. Catholic parishes will observe prayer and fasting on October 31 and November 28, 2026, as well as January 15, 2027. A nationwide diocesan prayer day will also hold on December 8, 2026, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. The bishops urged Nigerians to reject electoral violence, vote-buying, rigging, corruption, tribalism and voter apathy. They also called on electoral officials, security agencies, the judiciary, political aspirants and voters to act responsibly throughout the election period.
