Four Relatives Arrested Over Murder of Niger Village Head
Police in Niger State have arrested four relatives of Bawa Barde, the 53-year-old village head of Zhilu in Munya Local Government Area, over his alleged murder. The police said Barde was attacked with machetes inside his home at about 3 a.m. on August 23. He was found in a pool of blood behind his residence and was later confirmed dead at a medical facility. According to the police, the suspects allegedly confessed to conspiring to attack Barde after disagreements linked to a grazing-route dispute and other family issues. One suspect was also accused of having an affair with the deceased's wife and was reportedly ordered to pay a ₦700,000 fine. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna and are expected to be arraigned for alleged culpable homicide.
