Lagos Seals 14 Properties Over Untreated Sewage Discharge Into Drains

The Lagos State Government has sealed 14 properties in Ikotun, Ikoyi, Isheri-Osun, Lagos Island, Ikorodu and Amuwo-Odofin over alleged wastewater-management violations. The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office said inspections and public complaints found that some properties were discharging untreated sewage from septic tanks into public drains, drainage projects and nearby areas. Other alleged violations included damaged sewer chambers and illegal pipe connections. The agency said the practices cause foul odour, contaminate the environment and expose nearby residents to public-health risks. It urged property owners, residents, facility managers and businesses to use approved wastewater containment, treatment and disposal methods.
