Kwankwaso Slams Ali Modu Sheriff’s Claim on Peter Obi’s Northern Vote
Rabiu Kwankwaso has taken aim at former Borno State governor Ali Modu Sheriff for questioning Peter Obi’s appeal in Northern Nigeria. In a statement on social media, the ex-Kano governor expressed disappointment in Sheriff’s recent interview on Channels Television. Kwankwaso noted that Obi secured about 2.8 million votes in the North during his first presidential run, calling that achievement “remarkable.” He argued that widespread economic and social challenges under the current administration have bolstered the prospects of the Obi-Datti ticket in the region. Kwankwaso added that bringing a prominent Northern figure into the alliance, who himself garnered roughly 1.45 million Northern votes, further strengthens their position. Rejecting Sheriff’s claim that Kano voters would snub Obi, Kwankwaso insisted the state’s residents support credible candidates endorsed by his movement. He urged the former Borno governor to focus on his state’s security and humanitarian issues instead of making divisive remarks.
