Oyo Impounds 20 Cows in Ibadan Over Alleged Open Grazing and Crop Damage
The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority has impounded 20 cows in separate operations in Ibadan over alleged breaches of the state’s open grazing law. Nine cows were seized near Batake Village on the Ibadan-Eruwa Road after Adewolu Farms alleged repeated cattle encroachment and destruction of cassava, maize, yam and cashew crops. Officials said the herders tried to move the cattle away when enforcement officers arrived. Eleven more cows were impounded at Idi-Iroko in the Moniya area over allegations of residential cattle rearing and open grazing. The authority said the operations were carried out with security agencies under the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019. Residents and farmers have been urged to report suspected violations through the appropriate channels.
