Atiku Abubakar Clinches ADC Presidential Ticket, Vows to Defend Democracy
The ADC convention in Abuja was electric as party members cheered when Atiku Abubakar secured the party’s presidential nomination. Delegates waved banners and chanted slogans across the packed arena. In his acceptance speech, he accused the ruling APC of strangling democracy. He cited the detention of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai and warned the presidency, INEC and the judiciary against further interference in opposition affairs. Atiku urged unity over celebration and extended an olive branch to former rivals Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. He highlighted security challenges, economic hardship, education and healthcare as priorities ahead of the election. Promising a stronger military, accountability for fuel subsidy savings, free primary and secondary education, and improved healthcare, he positioned the ADC as the central opposition force ready to challenge the ruling party.
