Can Dapo Abiodun Deliver Two Million Votes for Tinubu in Ogun?
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s pledge to deliver at least two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in Ogun State has raised questions about whether the target is realistic. He made the promise at an APC rally in Ijebu-Ode in September, where Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola also called for two million votes. The governor’s previous election results provide a sharp contrast. Abiodun won the 2019 governorship election with 241,670 votes and was re-elected in 2023 with about 276,000 votes. With roughly 2.69 million registered voters in Ogun and historically low turnout, delivering two million votes would require an exceptional mobilisation effort. The pledge also comes amid political tensions in Ogun, including the Awujale succession dispute and renewed rivalry within the APC over the Ogun East senatorial seat. Rally promises may excite party supporters, but voters will ultimately judge the figures and the candidates at the ballot box.
