FG Confirms Ebola Case in Abuja, Begins Contact Tracing of 44 People
The Federal Government has confirmed one case of Ebola virus disease in the Federal Capital Territory after laboratory testing on 20 October 2026. The patient, a woman who recently arrived from Uganda, is in isolation and receiving care at a private hospital in Abuja. Health authorities have identified 44 close contacts, including healthcare workers, patients, caregivers and travel contacts. They are being traced and monitored as the NCDC, the FCT Health Services Secretariat and other agencies intensify surveillance and infection-control measures. Nigerians have been urged to remain calm and vigilant. Ebola spreads through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person or contaminated materials. Anyone with possible exposure or symptoms such as fever, weakness, headache, vomiting or diarrhoea should contact public health authorities before visiting a healthcare facility. The NCDC says its toll-free line, 6232, is available for reports and guidance.
