ADC Urges Tinubu to Consider Controlled Fuel Support as Prices Bite

The African Democratic Congress has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider a controlled fuel-support policy, arguing that many Nigerians can no longer cope with high petrol prices. The party rejected the Presidency’s criticism of Atiku Abubakar’s subsidy proposal. It said the debate should focus on the hardship faced by citizens, rather than only on the projected cost of restoring subsidy. The Presidency estimated that keeping petrol around ₦600 per litre could cost about ₦19.1 trillion yearly. ADC questioned the assumptions behind that figure and proposed a capped, audited and traceable intervention tied to domestic refining rather than fuel import dependence. The party also argued that Nigeria’s crude oil resources should help lower energy costs for citizens and support local refining capacity.
