How Nigerians in Nigeria, the US and UK Can Invest in OMO Bills for 3–6 Months
The Central Bank of Nigeria has reopened Open Market Operations (OMO) bill investments to eligible individuals, companies and non-bank institutions through Deposit Money Banks. This allows investors with idle naira funds to consider short-term CBN-backed instruments. OMO bills are short-term securities issued by the CBN to manage liquidity in the financial system. Recent tenors have ranged from about 103 to 266 days. Investors lend funds to the CBN and receive their principal plus interest at maturity. Recent auctions recorded annualised yields above 20%, compared with roughly 16–17% for some Treasury Bills. Interested investors, including Nigerians abroad, should contact their Nigerian bank to confirm eligibility, minimum investment amounts, settlement requirements and available tenors before investing.
