FG Rescinds Ban on Benin and Togo Degrees, Relief for 22,000+ Nigerian Graduates
The Federal Government has lifted its suspension on degree certificates from universities in the Republics of Benin and Togo. More than 22,000 Nigerian graduates can now pursue jobs and further studies without obstacles. This decision follows a motion by the House of Representatives and improved verification measures to curb certificate racketeering. Education stakeholders and consultants have praised President Tinubu and the National Assembly for responding to graduates’ concerns. Dr. Ugo Magnus Kel highlighted the move as a sign of government commitment to youth development. He also called for ongoing collaboration with neighbouring countries to protect genuine students and prevent future abuses. Graduates affected by the ban have expressed relief and renewed confidence in the system. Analysts expect the policy reversal to ease labour market entry for thousands and strengthen academic ties across West Africa.
