Ibadan Court Jails 40-Year-Old Woman for Trafficking 45.6kg of Cannabis
A Federal High Court in Ibadan has sentenced 40-year-old Omodunmami Ayantola to one year in a correctional centre for trafficking 45.6kg of cannabis. Justice Uche Agomoh said the sentence was reduced because Ayantola pleaded guilty early, spared the court’s time and resources, and showed genuine remorse. As a first-time offender, her jail term will run from the date of her arrest, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency will destroy the seized substance. Prosecutors told the court that Ayantola was arrested on April 1 in the Eleta area of Ibadan after operatives acted on intelligence that she was dealing in illicit drugs. Her actions contravened Section 11(C) of the NDLEA Act.
