Bendel Insurance won the first leg 1-0 in Benin City before losing by the same score away from home. Goalkeeper Amas Obasogie then saved two penalties as the Benin side progressed in the shoot-out. With Nigerian clubs still struggling against North African opposition, that result remains a useful reference point. Football administrators and coaches should study what Bendel Insurance got right under Odigie.
