My Best Friend Married the Man Who Wanted to Marry Me—Am I Wrong to Feel Betrayed?
I am deeply hurt and confused. A man who wanted to marry me is now engaged to my closest friend, and I do not know whether I have the right to feel betrayed. We met in Asaba when he came for a friend’s house opening. He lived in Lagos, was financially comfortable and seemed serious about me. My hesitation was that he did not have a degree, while I am a graduate. I told my friend everything, including my uncertainty about marrying him. When he returned to Asaba during Easter, my friend and I met him together. He spoke about meeting my parents, but I asked for more time. Months later, I discovered that my friend had been chatting with him and had even travelled to Lagos to see him. She said I had made it clear that I might not marry him, while he said he had developed a genuine connection with her. They are now planning to marry in December. I know we were not officially dating, but I feel hurt that my closest friend got involved with someone who had clearly been pursuing me. Should I contact either of them, or let it go?
