Is It Normal to Buy a Gift for a Loyal Female Friend?

I am a 300-level student, and there is a girl who checks up on me consistently. She is there when things are going well and when I am struggling. I do not have romantic feelings for her, and I do not think she sees me that way either. We are simply friends. I am currently going through a difficult period, so I deleted my main WhatsApp account to reduce distractions and focus on getting myself back on track. However, she still found a way to reach me through my anonymous second account and keeps checking on me. When I eventually recover and make progress, I would like to get her a new phone or do something meaningful to show my appreciation for her loyalty. I do not have a girlfriend, I am not looking for one, and I do not see her as someone I would date. Is it normal to want to appreciate a genuinely supportive friend this way, or am I overthinking it?

What kind of gift are you considering, and have you both ever talked about how you handle thoughtful gestures in friendship?

Exactly. A gift is normal, but the meaning often depends more on the friendship boundaries than the item itself.

Consistent support during both good and difficult periods can make a friendship feel important without automatically making it romantic.

A gift is not automatically harmless just because your intentions are platonic; the meaning can still be read differently by either person.

Choose something modest and clearly friendship-oriented, then give it casually rather than making the moment feel like a declaration.
