Why a Business Needs More Than One Supplier, Product or Revenue Stream

I have realised that hard work alone does not determine whether a business survives. The business model matters. A friend once worked with a foreign investor importing laptops and other tech equipment into Nigeria. Sales were strong until the supplier stopped importing, and the business collapsed because it depended on that single channel. That experience taught me not to build a business that one supplier can switch off. A sustainable business needs multiple suppliers, sourcing options, customer segments and revenue streams. The customer relationship and brand loyalty should belong to the business, not to a supplier or the brand being sold. This is why I am thinking beyond selling laptops alone. I want to build a technology ecosystem that covers devices, accessories, power solutions, networking equipment, repairs, servicing, wholesale supply and, eventually, software solutions. A customer who comes for a laptop may also need a printer, UPS, monitor, repair service or business software. My goal is to build an institution that can operate beyond its founder. Strong systems, a trusted brand, diverse products and multiple income streams can make a business more resilient. The focus should not only be on how many products we sell, but on how many real technology problems we can solve.
